TikTok is expanding beyond TikTok.

Timed to Advertising Week, the company is bringing TikTok Ad Network (TTAN) to US advertisers, letting them extend existing TikTok campaigns across roughly 400,000 third-party apps reaching more than 1 billion daily active users.

TTAN is essentially a rebranded version of Pangle, TikTok’s existing non-US mobile ad network, now being brought to the US under the TikTok name.

Why This Matters:

TikTok wants to capture ad dollars even when people aren’t on TikTok.

Advertisers can simply add TTAN as a placement within TikTok Ads Manager without creating a separate campaign. According to the company, TikTok then uses its audience data and AI optimization tech to shift delivery between TikTok and third-party apps based on performance.

TikTok also says the network provides genuinely incremental reach. Half of TTAN users aren’t on TikTok, representing 95 million additional users, according to the company.

Experts React:

TikTok says Roblox has already used the network to extend campaigns beyond TikTok.

“TikTok Ad Network helped us extend what was already working on TikTok to reach more of the audiences we needed at scale,” said Danica Xu, head of growth marketing at Roblox. “We were able to build on existing performance learnings and creative assets while driving incremental reach as Roblox expanded its investment.”

Our Take:

TikTok’s scale and advertiser base could help push even more spending into the broader mobile app ecosystem. But transparency will still matter.

TikTok says TTAN spans nearly 400,000 apps, but it’s not yet entirely clear which apps are included. Based on the Pangle website, the network appears to include a lot of mobile gaming apps, which can vary in experience quality. As adoption grows, advertisers will likely want more clarity into where their campaigns run, though TikTok offers third-party measurement and verification for TTAN, along with other transparency tools and reporting.
