Busy weekend in adtech.

Publicis has announced that it’s acquiring data solutions company LiveRamp for roughly $2.2 billion in cash, betting big on AI-powered “data co-creation” and agentic tools.

Basically, as agentic advertising becomes more popular and widespread, the companies enabling that infrastructure are becoming more valuable. If you’re an agency, building that data spine for clients is increasingly critical, and we see that clearly here.

Here’s a video from Publicis announcing the deal:

Why This Matters:

A couple of things stand out.

First, for Publicis, the acquisition deepens its push beyond traditional agency services into AI and enterprise data infrastructure. Remember, the company also acquired adtech OG Lotame a little over a year ago. Now, it’s continuing to build a broader stack around audience data, identity, clean rooms, data activation, and AI orchestration through combined assets like Epsilon, Lotame, and LiveRamp.

For LiveRamp, this feels like both a strong and somewhat inevitable exit. Publicis also gives the company broader access to enterprise customers globally.

For the market, the deal signals how quickly the lines between holding companies and adtech are blurring. Agencies need to be adtech companies. As AI agents become more important, companies are racing to control the data and interoperability layers powering them, and Publicis is positioning itself as a big player amid the shift. Our Take:

We predicted more deals like this a year ago. Here’s what we said in response to the InfoSum and WPP deal:

Who knows how a tariff-weighted economy will impact M&A in adtech and advertising, but clearly, agencies are eyeing an opportunity. Whether it’s Lotame, InfoSum, LiveIntent, Lockr—whoever—if you’re in the identity and data collaboration game, odds are you’re on someone’s acquisition list this year.

Expect more data platform deals in the future. As more large players get scooped up and with funding hard to get, there are deals to be had.
